MKF-MED SK12: Unintentional actuation ruled out

Ergonomic foot controls for medical laser equipment

With the MKF-MED SK 12, steute presents a foot control which has been especially designed for laser surgery equipment. The IEC standard IEC 60601-2-22 requires that the device cannot be actuated unintentionally - a requirement which has been met by means of a protective metal shield.

This shield may disturb the operator when he is not using the switch, however. This problem does not occur with the new MKF-MED-SK 12 plastic foot control. In its »resting state« the foot control is integrated in a protective hinged cover and cannot be actuated. When the staff in an operating theatre or doctor's surgery wish to operate the laser equipment, they just tip the top of the hinged cover with their foot, which then makes it possible to use the switch. Now the device can be operated, and the hinged cover prevents any unintentional actuation of the laser functions.

Thus the foot control with its protective hinged cover is no higher than the pedal. This improves ergonomics, since operators are not disturbed by the hinged cover. The high-quality thermoplastic enclosure is very robust; as an alternative, foot controls with hinged metal protection shields are also available.

It goes without saying that the designs of the connecting cable and entry of the MKF-MED-SK 12 control device also meet the requirements for medical laser equipment. Hall sensors, micro switches or reed contacts are used as switching elements; variants with one or two NO contacts, with one change-over contact, as well as with an analogue output, are all available.
