Wireless foot controls for laser ophthalmology

For a new laser phacoemulsification system for the treatment of cataracts, steute Medical Equipment designed a wireless foot control device as part of the innovative operating concept, with the ergonomically designed device integrating multiple control functions. Features include a central pedal that can be adjusted in both horizontal and vertical directions, and the ability to control various functions with either the heel of the foot or the toe, depending upon the selected operating mode.

The zero position of the central pedal is height adjustable to meet the requirements of different operators, but the pedal can also be adjusted in the horizontal axis for maximum operator comfort. In addition, the pedal travel and the required force for actuating the pedal are adjustable. The result is a highly ergonomic design that provides precise control of the various operating functions.

The wireless signal transmission also improves the ergonomics: the foot control device communicates with the laser device via an implementation of the Bluetooth protocol, modified by steute to meet the requirements of medical equipment.
