steute completes its range of safety sensors for potentially explosive atmospheres with a switch which is significantly different from the sensors previously available: the EEx HS Si 4. This device does not work on a magnetic switch basis, but uses three hall sensors to detect the actuator.
This active principle provides various advantages. Detection can take place in very small rooms: with dimensions of just 40.5 x 20 x 12 mm (l/w/h) the sensor has a very compact design, much smaller than the smallest EEx RC safety magnetic switches available so far. Moreover, the coded actuator is extremely compact, and yet a long operating distance is attained – another important feature.
The new safety sensor is available in two contact variants (1NC/1NO or 2NC). It is supplied with a pre-wired cable for the semiconductor outlets – a prerequisite for high protection (IP 67).
The EEx HS Si 4 meets the requirements of equipment category 3G/D, meaning that it can be used for gas-Ex zone 2, as well as for dust-Ex zone 22. A version for zones 1 and 21 is in the pipeline.
For signal evaluation steute offers the evaluation module SRM 21 RT 2, suitable for applications up to control category 4 as per EN 954-1. Among other things, this module has at its disposal two release paths, a feedback control loop and a transistor outlet.
